LOVST TOKYO's Sustainable Packaging: Aiming for a Zero-Waste Future

Table of Contents

May 30th is "Zero Waste Day" in Japan. It is a commemorative day, originating in Japan, for activities to beautify the environment with the aim of reducing waste and turning it into resources.

In this article, we'll introduce LOVST TOKYO's sustainable packaging, which addresses customers' guilt about "not wanting to create extra waste when shopping"!

"comPOST PACK": Compostable Packaging

Have you ever felt stressed about throwing away large amounts of packaging materials when you order something online? Especially when you order a large item, the packaging material can be bulky. "comPOST PACK" solves this problem.

comPOST PACK
"comPOST PACK" is a reusable and compostable packaging made from corn starch and other materials. At LOVST TOKYO, we use it for delivering large items such as backpacks*.

Unlike ordinary plastic materials, "comPOST PACK" is strong and highly waterproof. Therefore, after it has served its purpose as packaging for delivering products, you can cut it at the designated areas with scissors and reuse it as an eco-bag.

*If it is difficult to use compostable packaging, such as when purchasing multiple items, we may send it in a cardboard box.

Furthermore, it can be composted at home after use. Composting is a system that uses microorganisms to ferment and decompose organic matter such as food waste, fallen leaves, and sewage sludge to create compost. Recently, it has become easier to do at home.

Why not take the opportunity of shopping at LOVST TOKYO to try composting? If it's difficult to compost at home, you can bring it to us at a POP-UP event, and we will dispose of it responsibly.

New Recycled Plastic Bags: "POLLAST!C"

POLLAST!C adopted by LOVST TOKYO

This year, we have newly introduced "POLLAST!C" for packaging wallets and accessories! It's a light and durable package made of recycled plastic material. When it comes to environmental problems related to plastic, many people probably think of "marine plastic."

Waste pollution (LOVST TOKYO)

Plastic waste not only pollutes the oceans but also has a detrimental effect on marine ecosystems. In coastal areas of Southeast Asia, where waste collection infrastructure is not well developed, the problem of waste pollution is particularly severe. To address this situation, "POLLAST!C" was created, reusing plastic collected from the ocean.

Recycled plastic has the advantage of significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to the manufacturing process of virgin plastic. Furthermore, "POLLAST!C" has established a system where people can earn money by collecting waste. This creates local employment, contributing to the solution of poverty.

Gift Packaging with Attention to Detail

When giving a gift to a loved one, many people are probably more concerned about the packaging than when shopping for themselves.

LOVST TOKYO gift packaging

At LOVST TOKYO, even the gift packaging available for some products is made with a focus on sustainable materials. All gift boxes use "forest certified paper". Forest certified paper is paper raw material that has been certified and verified to be produced and sold with consideration for the environment and local communities, from forest management and logging to paper manufacturing.

Gift packaging using banana paper and lost flowers

The gift cards adorned with dried flowers are made from "banana paper," which reuses organic banana stems. Banana paper is produced based on "fair trade," ensuring consideration for the working conditions of people in the production areas. Furthermore, the dried flowers on the cards are processed from "lost flowers"—those that do not meet sales standards or were overproduced. These gift cards, which strongly reflect LOVST TOKYO's commitment, have been well-received by customers.

We want to address the guilt of "generating unnecessary waste"

This time, to coincide with "Zero Waste Day," we introduced LOVST TOKYO's sustainable packaging. The guilt of generating unnecessary waste when buying things. We hope to provide a "virtuous shopping experience" where that unease can be eased, even a little, with environmentally friendly packaging.
